School in the Fall

0

This fall, September 2013, our first school will open in Macomb, Haiti. It is an early elementary school that will focus on providing Christ-centered education to the neediest families in the Macomb community who cannot afford to send their children to other schools. These are many times the kids who would not attend school or their families would find a way to get them into school but then could not pay for their basic needs such as food, hygiene products, shoes etc. In Haiti, uniforms, shoes, backpacks and materials are to be purchased by the families; many families cannot afford these things. At our school, the majority of these items will be provided or students will be allowed to come without these items until they are donated.

In addition to learning their regular elementary school curriculum, students must be fluent in a foreign language (French) by sixth grade. This makes for odd combinations of students at each grade level. For example, one of my Haitian friends has a daughter who is 15 years old and in third grade. This is because she started school late and had to drop out for several years due to lack of money to send her. Schooling in Haiti is very expensive, and we need your help.
